THE SKEENA Industrial Development Park is shaping up.

Work has begun to mark out the long-awaited Skeena Industrial Development Park, also known as the airport lands. Crews started clearing out 80 hectares of land in early September and are finishing up the work this week.
The intersection and 700 metre access road project to the industrial park is estimated to cost just over $2 million, and the city has been awarded a $1.337 million grant in total from the federal and provincial governments if it provides the remaining one third, $668,000.
City council decided to put $68,000 from this year’s budget to the project, which totals nearly $200,000 thanks to matching money from both the federal and provincial government.
This money is being used for engineering costs and clearing the right of way.
The next step will be geotechnical and survey work of the area. The design work for the road and intersection will be put out to tender and worked on in the winter months.
City council then has to decide if it has enough money in the budget to access the matching government grants and start work on the road and intersection.
The city has until 2016 to complete the work.
