A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with aggravated sexual assault following an incident Feb. 3 in Gitsegukla involving a nine-year-old girl.
Police say the girl was taken to Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton in the evening after they responded to a report that an assault had taken place earlier that day.
"A 14 year old male suspect was taken into custody shortly thereafter. Both victim and suspect are from Gitsegukla, BC and are known to each other," said a press release from the New Hazelton RCMP detachment.
"The assault occurred at a residence in Gitsegukla where a search warrant was executed by the New Hazelton RCMP and Terrace RCMP Forensic Identification Section on the morning of February 4, 2010," the release continued.
RCMP say the girl remains at Wrinch Memorial for observation and is in stable condition.
The 14 year old suspect has been charged for aggravated sexual assault and remanded into custody while the police investigation continues.
