Lots of people who came out for the launch of a local college instructor’s first book enjoyed a reading and got their copies of the book signed.

Simon Thompson, who teaches English at Northwest Community College here, has released his book of poetry “Why does it feel so late?” that he has been working on for a couple years.

“The book is really about Terrace and about a relationship between the people and the place. It’s really about the way that we perceive the natural environment and I guess it’s about the sense we have of the land and the way the geography changes the way we see the world,” he says. Thompson plans to write more books and is working on his next one now.

“I think it’s really important that people produce art that they live even if and when they go away, they carry a place with them, “he says. “Not just the imagery but the sense of where you live.”

“Why does it feel so late?” is available at Misty River Books and online at newstarbooks.com.
