Music

Kispiox valley music Festival takes place July 25, 26 and 27 on the banks of the Kispiox River, about 30 minutes north of Hazelton. This is a family-focused festival with a wide range of music from a variety of genres. The line up of artists this year includes Rachelle Van Zanten, FreeFlow, Jarimba, The Breakmen, De La Terra, Mamaguroove and many more. For more info visit www.kispiox.com/kvmf.

The Terrace riverside Festival is back this year and will take place Aug. 8, 9 and 10 at Har-Lee’s Place, 14 kilometres north of Terrace on Kalum Lake Drive. Music to include Metis fiddling and jigging, country, blue grass, gospel and open mike. On-site camping and concessions will be available. A weekend pass is $30 in advance or $35 at the gate. Day passes are $10 for Friday and Sunday and $20 for Saturday. Kids 12 and under are free. Advance tickets available at the George Little House, Misty River Books, White River Helicopters, and Irly Building Centre.

Cafenara Jam nights are held every second and fourth Monday of the month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Everyone welcome to come and join in on the jam session or just enjoy the music. 108-4716 Lazelle Ave.

Visual Arts

Two art shows from Smithers, “Acts of Transformation” featuring a diverse collection from war toys to peace art and “Trading Spaces” an exhibit sharing art and imagination are in town. The shows will be featured from July 4 to July 26 at the Terrace Art Gallery. Hours of operation are Wednesday 12 – 4, Thursday 12 – 4, Friday 12 – 6, Saturday 12 – 4 and Sunday 1 – 4.

Who says Oil & water don’t mix? View the art of Tom Campbell and Lawrence Pettet on display in the new Oil & Water exhibit at the Kitimat Centennial Museum July 18 to August 23. Differing in canvas size and medium, the two artists share a passion for art. NorthWord’s Creative Writers Kids Camp invites youths aged 9-16 years to join well-known graphic artist Dean Griffith (Perfect Man) for this year’s free “Graphic Novels” camp. Learn how to write/illustrate your own comic book and go on a field trip to copy and bind your creation to share with your friends and family. The camp will run Aug. 5 to Aug. 8 and goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. All you need to bring is a bag lunch and a sense of creativity! A $10 refundable deposit is required to hold your spot and class size is limited , so early registration is encouraged.
