A local resident has been honoured with an award aimed at recognizing a northern resident who has made significant contributions to the region’s tourism industry.
Andy Webber, planning and economic development manager for the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, was presented the Northern Advancement Award by Northern BC Tourism at its annual general meeting Oct. 20 in Prince George.
Northern BC Tourism CEO Anthony Everett said the award is presented to someone in a northern community who is a leader, moving tourism and economic growth forward for that community.
“It’s well deserved on
Andy’s part, he’s been working on this for a long time,” Everett said.
Webber has participated as a representative on the Travel Northwest BC group for many years, and has also worked with communities along Hwy 37 to help foster tourism growth.
Some of the initiatives that he has helped to develop include the Stewart Cassiar Tourism Council’s ongoing work with their website and material, trail brochures for Terrace, Kitimat, Stewart, and Hwy 37, and arts and culture material for Terrace surrounding area.
He has also acted as a point of contact for the BC Film Commission, is an active member of the River Boat Days Committee, and has participated in community tourism planning activities.
