Two Prince George mixed martial artists are facing charges of sexual assault and forcible confinement in Halifax, stemming from an incident early Sunday morning.

James Hanson, 27, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm and two counts of forcible confinement. Gary ‘Chris’ Peak, 32, is charged with aggravated sexual assault and forcible confinement.

“Two gentlemen met up with two women in an establishment in Halifax,” Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said. “They ended up at a hotel in Dartmouth, where they were staying.”

The younger of the two women decided she wanted to leave, and ended in an argument with the older of the two women, Palmeter said.

“The younger of the two women attempted to leave the room and was prevented from doing so. She was then subsequently assaulted by the older woman,” he said. “The younger woman was then able to leave and seek help. The two men then (sexually) assaulted the older woman.”

The younger woman contacted the hotel staff and they called police at 5:37 a.m. on Sunday. Halifax Regional Police officers were on the scene by 5:44 a.m. and arrested the Hanson, Peak and the older woman.

The older woman is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm as a result of the incident, but can’t be named as the victim of a sexual assault.

Peak competed in Extreme Cage Combat: 10 Demolition, a mixed martial arts fight event, Saturday night. He was a last-minute substitution on the card, after Fritz Paul backed out of his bout with Roger Hollett last week.

The Peak-Hollett fight was the top-billed fight of the event and Peak lost in the first round by submission.

Peak was billed by event promoters as 6’3” tall, 205 lbs. and a former amateur boxer. His MMA record stands at 11 wins and 19 losses, including his bout with Hollett.

Hanson is a fighter with Prince George-based Kaiten Mixed Martial Arts Academy, but was not listed as a competitor in ECC:10 Demolition.
