Donna Brown
Canadian artists bring Brazilian sound
Published: July 22, 2008 4:00 PMInternationally renowned Canadian soprano Donna Brown and guitar virtuoso Andrew Mah have united to create an exciting new ensemble called Duo Brazil. The Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) is hosting a special concert featuring Duo Brazil on August 6 at 8 p.m. at the Playhouse.
“As solo performers, Brown and Mah have attracted large audiences wherever they go. Together they have created something truly unique and not to be missed by fans of great music,” said PGSO manager Barb Parker.
These two Canadian artists have put together a program that combines their passion for traditional Brazilian music with their commitment to Canadian audiences, she said. “This will truly be an exceptional event on the Prince George social calendar. With a quality that is uniquely Canadian, Ms. Brown and Mr. Mah craft traditional Brazilian music in a way that is both unique and accessible to everyone.”
Mah has been a professional musician for 15 years and is well known for his versatility and heartfelt musicality. His CD Shadows of the Bossa was recorded at the request of the Brazilian Embassy of Canada.
Brown studied piano, voice and composition in Ottawa and Montreal before moving to Paris to work with Noemic Perugia and Daniel Ferro. The artist has mastered both French and German styles with what has been called rare facility.
Duo Brazil will perform in Prince George on August 6 just after they return from playing in France and Guadalupe. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the PGSO office or by calling 250-562-0800.
