Sunday, Nov. 15 the Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) presents a musical matinee performance of glorious music from the Baroque era. Join the PGSO and maestro Leslie Dala for a delightful afternoon of works by Handel, Bach and Purcell. Concert master Jose Delgado Guevara and PGSO principal flute Don Bond promise to dazzle the audience as featured soloists.

Included on the Sunday afternoon program are Bach's Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major, Purcell's The Fairy Queen, Suite No. 1, Handel's Water Music, Suite No.1.

Baroque music is described on Wikipedia as a style of European classical music from 1600 to 1750. This era is said to have begun after the Renaissance and was followed by the Classical era. Baroque music expanded the size, range and complexity of instrumental performance and also established opera as a musical genre. Handel's Water Music premiered on July 17, 1717 when King George I requested a concert on the River Thames.

George I was said to have loved it so much that he ordered the exhausted musicians to play the suites three times on the trip. Also on the program is JS Bach's Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major featuring Bach's abilities as an organist were highly respected throughout Europe during his lifetime, although he was not widely recognized as a great composer until a revival of interest in his music in the first half of the 19th century. He is now regarded as the greatest composer of the Baroque, and as one of the greatest of all time.
