The Vikings Bantam squad arrived in Prince George determined to set the tone early in the game. Sheldon Conniff started off the scoring for the Vikings with a strong run of 40 yards. After tying the game in the first quarter, the Prince George squad was caught off guard during a Viking punt. As an onside player Conniff ran down the sideline caught the ball off of a hop and ran in for another touchdown. The ensuing kickoff was recovered by Quinn Hill for the Vikings giving them great field position again. Ben Rodts took the ball in the backfield, waited for his blockers and followed a wall of blue into the end zone to give the Vikings an 18-6 lead. Kyle Varley ran in the two-point convert. The Viking defense led by Middle linebacker Gavin Schlamp gave the PG Axemen nothing for the rest of the half. Conniff completed his scoring for the game when he ran in another touchdown in the second quarter. As a side note, Conniff had played for the NVSS high school team two nights previous and scored two touchdowns in the Senior Vikings victory over Duchess Park. Tight End Brendan Little gave the Vikings a 34-6 lead at half time by catching both touchdown and convert passes.
Prince George was able to score in the second half, but Scot Wallace made a great catch and run to keep the Vikings in control of the game. Varley ran in the convert. Landon Brophy proved that the Vikings have a complete game when he kicked the ball through the end zone on the next kickoff to score a single point. The final score was 43-12. The Vikings will be playing in the league Championship in Prince George on October 31.
In a league of their own, the Junior Bantam Vikings are making football look easy right now. The Vikings defeated the second best team in the league 68-0 on the weekend. Scoring for the Vikings were Tristen Martens, Josh Hoffert, Dylan Siemens, Colton Daniel, and Gerry Ens. The Junior Bantam’s next action is a semifinal game on October 24 in Prince George.
