Vikings keeping winning momentum going
Viking Brandon Pelletier completes one of many tackles against Kelly Road Secondary at Masich Place Stadium in Prince George on October 1.
The Junior Bantams passed their first real test of the season. After both defenses held the opposing offense on their first possessions, Tristan Martens started the scoring with a touchdown. Aubertin of Prince George quickly matched the score with an 80-yard run to tie the game. Vanderhoof then scored the next two touchdowns, Mckay Jensen and Martens doing the honors. Dillon Siemens ran in the converts. For Prince George, Pike ran in a two yard run for a touchdown to make the score 20 -12. To finish the half Siemens ran in another touchdown. In the second half the defenses dominated and only two touchdowns were scored. Siemens ran in the Viking touchdown and Martens kicked a two point convert. Aubertin ran in the Prince George Score. The final score was 35 -18.
Penalties marred the Bantam game. An intense rivalry has started between the Vikings and Prince George White Axmen, resulting in a roughly played game. Viking Kyle Varley proved to be unstoppable all game. Varley started off the game with a touchdown and then kicked the convert to give the Vikings a 7-0 start. Defensively, the Vikings started off slowly again but were able to hold the Axmen on the first possession. Connor Nielsen then led the Vikings down to the Prince George goalline, then called his own number for the score. Prince George then took advantage of the Viking defense’s confusion and Montell Lindgren scored to get Prince George within seven. Varley came back immediately to take the momentum back for the Vikings, zig-zagging through the Prince George defense for his second touchdown of the game. Sheldon Conniff ran in the two point convert. For Prince George Josh Houghson made a tough run for the second Prince George touchdown. Again Vanderhoof responded Scot Wallace caught a touchdown pass. The halftime score was 27 -12 for Vanderhoof. In the second half Vanderhoof made some defensive adjustments and outside linebackers TJ VanDamme and Bryan Daley came to play. The Prince George run to the outside and trick plays were shut down and Prince George was held to one point. Varley scored another touchdown and two point convert to finish the game. The final score was 35 -13. Vanderhoof has two more regular season games but has sealed a berth in the league championship game in Prince George on October 31.
The Atom Vikings also won both of their games.
The Viking Football players would like to thank Colon Kingsley, Ken Threlkeld, Chris Lyle, Lawrence Pausche and P&H Supplies for welding the goalposts and providing the equipment to put them up so they were able to play on Saturday. The regular playing field was not useable due to NVSS construction.
