Eoz 7: Display from the future, 2049 AD, one of the most unique exhibits at this year’s Here Fishy, Fishy, Fishy exhibit.
Make sure you catch exhibit
Published: September 17, 2008 6:00 AMIf you’ve been wondering where all the fish have gone this year you should look at the Kitimat Centennial Museum.
The museum is again hosting the “Here Fishy, Fishy, Fishy...” exhibit, an art showcase of all things fish.
The exhibit will run until October 4.
The works range from the two-dimensional acrylics and watercolours, to the three-dimensional mobiles, to the fourth-dimensional pieces from the future.
The one piece that has everyone talking is an interactive display titled “Eoz 7: Display from the future, 2049 AD”.
The piece, created by artist Chris Gielens and cabinetry guy Paul O’Regan, has a series of three buttons each with a different function.
Hitting one causes the fish to come alive and swing its tail. Another one activates the camera that serves as the fish’s eye and displays what the fish sees on a small television screen.
Assistant curator Angela Eastman said this year is the first time there has been an electronic interactive display, although metal sculptures have passed through over the years.
People shouldn’t let that one overshadow the other great works on display.
Ava Haw has her own three-dimensional exhibit, “Flying Fish”, a mobile featuring several fish suspended in the air.
And there are numerous other colourful and brilliant pieces that are lining the museum’s second floor.
Make sure you get out to the exhibit before it’s over. You’ll get your chance to vote on your favourite piece and the most popular artist will receive $500.
There are over 30 pieces of art for this years exhibit, 12 of those from Kitimat.
Eastman said that number indicates a good showing by locals.
