“My Big fat diet”: Dr. Jay Wortman, a Metis physician will be giving a presentation on how he believes it is the western diet that replaced the traditional diet that is the primary cause of obesity and diabetes in First Nations communities. 6:30 p.m. at the Haisla Recreation Centre. TAMITIK STATUS OF WOMEN invites you to join other women on a path of healing and self discovery. Using the work of Charlotte Kasi Davis: 16 Steps - Many Roads, One Journey. The groups is designed to help women find their own voices, sources of strength and passion for life. Held weekly, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at TSW. Transportation and child care subsidies are provided. October community fun run starts from Riverlodge at 9:30 am, distances are 1, 3 or 5km. Join us for a walk or run, everyone welcome. Free refreshments to follow.

Volunteer leader training: Interested in developing group facilitation skills to share strategies for living a healthier life with chronic conditions? The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is recruiting volunteers in Kitimat to facilitate workshops. Free four-day volunteer leader training to be held in the hospital multi-purpose room, Monday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. The Compassionate Friends is a non-denominational volumteer organization of and for parents who have experienced the death of a son or daughter. TCF Kitimat also welcomes bereaved grandparents and adult siblings to regular monthly meetings at St. Anthony’s school at 7 p.m. every second Wednesday. There is no charge or religious affiliation. This meeting includes planning our annual December Candlelight Memorial and anyone who can volunteer help is especially encouraged to attend. Contact Shelley at 250-632-3646 or Anne at 250-632-4942.
