The Lakes District Arts Council out did themselves once again
Another busy weekend gone by and it was busy. Jo and I were invited to the Southside Fire Department open house. What an interesting place, with all the equipment spic and span, and the building with all the modern equipment all ready in case of a fire to be right on the job. They have three fire trucks. The big one that they were using and this one is equipped as well as you would find in any major city. The other two are ready to go in case of a larger emergency. All the trucks as you can see are well cared for and in top notch mechanical condition.
Then there was a large crew showing off the fire fighting equipment, with masks and proper suits for safety. As a demonstration they had on fire a small trailer. They were also training a number of young folks on highway accidents and how to save lives. This whole building and another storage building on the property and all the ground work was by hard work to raise funds and labour was all volunteer right from scratch. Wieners and coffee was served and lots of interesting stories were told. The whole Southside should be very proud of their fire department as its such an asset for all the south country. Nobody wants a fire but its nice to know that you will have your fire department right there to help you.
Waldron’s celebrate
On Oct. 3 it was such an honour to attend the 50 year golden anniversary open house for Anne and Bill Waldron. There were so many old friends there that we had not seen for many years. Anne and Bill’s family hosted the celebration with so much gorgeous food and so many of their old friends to help celebrate this wonderful occasion. This was special to us as Anne was Jo’s bridesmaid now over 60 years ago.
Sad news
We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Lee Faber Sr., both Lee and his wife Angie spent many years living at Francois Lake. Their family were also long time residents of our district. Lee and his wife were very good friends of ours as they were so very hospitable and very good neighbours. He leaves a loving wife and also a very close family. After leaving their home at Francois Lake they moved to Vernon where he spent his last years.
Germs
Last evening there was an interesting show on how germs travel and how we should wash our hand, and door knobs, and after shaking hands, etc., etc. But one thing they didn’t mention was the washing of fruit from the stores and markets. Also vegetables are also prone to germs. You will see big bins of apples, peaches, pears and folks picking through to get the nicest and the best quality, so be sure you wash all the fruit you pick up as its loaded with germs. As of late it seems washing with a good soap and keeping clean hands is so important to good health. I notice all the washrooms in all the eating places and stores have excellent very clean washrooms. Hats off to you as washrooms are number one places of germs.
Arts council does it again
On Sunday evening Oct. 4 at the LDSS multipurpose room the L.D. Arts Council once more gave us some really top notch entertainment. What a way to start the season and big time. As it was called Four Great entertainers on one stage and they were. They were under the label “Lunch at Allen’s”. They had such a vast repertoire of songs and the music that went with it all. The jokes and the little stories just seemed to fit in so well. No wonder they were called back for a standing ovation and they well deserved it.
These performances all take money and a big thank you to the business establishments that gave with so much generosity to make things like last night happen. Now the folks that give of their time with the planning and there must be lots of that; a big thank you to you. I would like very much to do just that, but I am afraid I might miss out and hurt feelings and this I don’t want to do.
Last night was just a start of a glorious season, which we are all looking forward to.
Great job again to L.D. Arts Council, you are fantastic. One must not be missed out and that was the art display and this also was great.
One thing that really took my eye was Murray McLauchlan that played the mouth organ and it was great! It’s nice to see them coming back again. It is such a small instrument but make lots of noise. We used to call them a mouth harp and everyone would carry one in their pocket to play on. I still have little one in the glove compartment of the pickup and its at least thirty years old if its a day. Thanks to the guy that brought back the memories of over 60 years.
Appreciation day
On Wednesday afternoon Waterbridge held an appreciation day for all the folks that use the ferry. The waiting room was fixed up with a table that held coffee, tea, donuts and cakes. Also small key chain lights were passed out. On every trip both coming and going, passengers were invited for coffee and treats.
Everyone really did enjoy the afternoon and all the treats and coffee. Hats off to Waterbridge for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
Thought for the day
Twenty thousand years ago, the family was the social unit. Now the social unit has become the world, in which it may truthfully be said that each person’s welfare affects that of every other.
A little story
Two guys were talking and one said to the other “They say brunettes have sweeter dispositions than blondes” the other guy said “Well my wife has been both, and I can’t see the difference”.
Take care have a nice week and always remember God loves you and so do I.
