Who doesn’t love pickled eggs? But with the shells off

Last week a very good friend of mine decided he would like to do some pickled eggs, as he had more than he could use. This was a good idea as we all like pickled eggs. He hard boiled up about a dozen eggs, filled up a large container with the proper mix and dropped in the eggs. Sealed the container up and waited for them to cure out, takes about a week or so.

He went to bed thinking all was well and all at once the light came on, he had forgotten to take the shells off his eggs. The whole lot had to be thrown out, as the eggs couldn’t be shelled after coming out of the brine. He will be trying it again in the near future and this time the shells will come off the eggs first thing. Good luck this time old friend as I know they will be good and I love pickled eggs.

Great concert

On Saturday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church we were treated once more, to the most delightful music and singing. This was made possible through the planning and organizing of our Lakes District Arts Council, with it’s many sponsors and helpers. This would not be possible otherwise.

This talented group called Sinfonia from Prince George were just out of this world. Classical music and stunning voices. We don’t have to go out of our northern interior to be able to listen to such classical entertainment, this was the best and I mean the very best.

I would imagine most all the members of the Borealis Chamber Choir, the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and the Soloists all have various positions in their regular life, and to have them take time off to entertain us with a high class musical afternoon for all to enjoy, we thank you all, and hope that you will come back again to visit us.

Cleaning up

On Wednesday afternoon last the members of the Hospital Point Hall Committee went for road cleanup. Starting from the Hospital hall to the Southbank hill. There was very little to clean up, but wait until next spring, it will make up for it.

On Monday last we expected lots of logging trucks crossing the ferry, but there were very few. Somehow a change of plans. It’s odd to drive Hwy. 35 and not meet lots of loads of logs.

The service at St. Lukes, Francois Lake had to be cancelled due to the lack of a minister. The service is as a rule on the second Sunday of the month. If all goes well service will be on the second Sunday in November. Service is at 10:30 am.

Lots of town folks were sorry to hear about the closing of the Southbank Farmers Market for the year. This has been just great for the folks who are unable to grow a garden. I have had folks ask me where can we get vegetables such as carrots and potatoes. There must be folks who do sell fresh stuff. If you do please give me a ring and I will try to pass the word along to the folks.

It’s Friday morning and it’s our first heavy frost and a good one too. It was -9 and -10 in town and here at the Landing it was -6, so it’s time to get your gardens up if you have not already. Next thing will be a flurry of snow and then we will have winter. Seems to me we have just got over the last one. Be sure to check your antifreeze as a slip up can sure be a costly error. Next week will be a very full week for us all, with Thanksgiving and the election, so this will keep us on our toes. We do have a lot to be thankful for.

Old saying

As my Dad used to say, “Things are not so bad that they couldn’t get worse.” The whole world is feeling major financial setbacks and it’s bad, but Canada is one of the better ones so let’s be thankful and count our many blessings.

This last week we have had some terrific winds, this is a bit unusual for here, the lake was just standing on end. I crossed over on the ferry on Wednesday afternoon and the waves were breaking over the decks of the ferry. The ferry crew are very competent and do a great job of handling the ferry in the rough weather. This was one of the worst blows we had for some time now.

Something to think on and I heard it this morning. One of our greatest problems facing us today is, “Everybody wants to have everything that everybody else has, even if they can’t afford it.” This maybe one of our greatest problems facing our economy today.

From the old cowboy

If we discovered that we had only five minutes left to say all that we wanted to say, every telephone booth would be occupied by people calling other people to stammer that they loved them.

A little story

Three old pilots were walking down the ramp. First one says, “Windy isn’t it?” Second one says, “Nope, it’s Thursday.” Third one says, “So am I, let’s go and have a beer.”

Take care please, as we are having too many accident. Life is just too valuable to take chances, what’s 10 minutes in the rest of your life.

Always remember God loves you a great deal and so do I.
