Slow down and arrive alive
Nov. 1 to 30 is the RCMP's National Campaign for "Speed Relative to Conditions"
According to Cpl. Rod Hrehirchuk from Lakes District Traffic Services they will be targeting the following offences in order to reduce collisions involving serious injury and deaths on our roadways:
-Driving too fast for the road conditions such as wet, icy, slushy and/ or slippery roads.
-Following too closely and not leaving enough space to stop safely if the vehicle ahead has to stop suddenly.
-Driving aggressively, passing on double solid lines, on blind curves, on hills, etc.
-Driving too fast in poor visibility, fog or snow.
-Cutting in and out of traffic.
-Disobeying traffic lights or signals.
-Disobeying traffic control devices or flag persons, etc.
-Failing to slow down at collision scenes and for emergency vehicles at these scenes.
According to Hrehirchuk reduced visibility and traction are the primary factors that often make winter driving much more difficult and challenging. The driving style that motorists adopt to deal with those factors will determine how well they cope with the hazards of winter.
Divers should take the time to clear any snow, ice or frost from the windows, both inside and out.
