Health committee change

Smithers council unanimously decided to disband the health committee, however the committee will continue on as a committee of the community.

“It will continue and myself and Councillor [Frank] Wray will continue to attend as liaisons,” Deputy Mayor Jo Ann Groves said. “But it’s more of a committee dealing with Northern Health as opposed to dealing with issues that are from the town.”

The council initiated decision to disband was proposed by council, in part for cost savings. This way, the town administration is not responsible for putting together the agendas, and is part of council’s attempts to condense their committee structure.
