Top 8 films to be released

The Hazelton District Public Library held a three week competition for youths to create short digital films.

Library employee, Carol Sutherland, said that while the program came out of last year’s Born to be Wild series, the youth component was a great success.

“All the crew at the library enjoys films and it started with our Born to be Wild series from last year which was where people who travelled in different places in the world shared their adventures,” Sutherland explained. “At that time we thought it be great to have a youth component and we were looking for activities for the teenage boys. We noticed that there was a lot of interest in making short films and as it turned out, it was a great success.”

The short program started on June 25 and ended on July 12 and a panel of judges watched all the films and selected the top eight to be shown at the Kispiox Music Festival this Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Hall.

The criteria was, the films had to be three minutes or less, created during the three week time frame and have the theme of looking for adventure.

“We were very pleased with the turnout,” Sutherland said and added

“I think we would do it again and try and work with other community organizations and have a Sunday afternoon event with both films and music.”
