Luckies break out of funk: defeat Braves Halloween weekend.
The Houston Luckies break out of losing streak with a show stopping home game against the Burns Lake Braves last weekend.
The home fans were in for a Halloween treat as the Houston Luckies beat the Burns Lake Braves 2-1 on Saturday night.
The Luckies got up to a two goal lead early, and played a good defensive game to maintain the victory.
“It was a good game for the fans.” Head coach Shane Brienen said. “We were not outplayed, even with all the power plays and playing short handed.”
It was a penalty filled game for both teams, with over 46 minutes doled out by the referees.
There was an impressive performance from Luckies goalie Don Kenzle, who faced 47 shots in total to thrill the hometown crowd.
“It was a good game to watch, lots of back and forth and lots of physical play.” Kenzle said. “There were lots of shots, mainly in the third period — I think we outplayed them in the first two periods. We ran into a bit of penalty trouble in the third, but we stood tall and the defensemen played really well.”
The Houston Luckies will now enjoy some time off, while they get ready to face Vanderhoof for a double-header on November 21st and 22nd.
“This was a big game – it nice to sit on a win heading into a two week break.” Kenzle said.
Coach Brienen knows what the team will be focusing on in the coming weeks.
“We’ve had problems getting shots to the net, we’ve been going wide a lot,” Brienen said. “We’ll be mainly working on generating more shots.”
