Luckies lose first game in season

The Houston Luckies suffered their first loss of the season in a 7 – 2 trouncing courtesy of the home team Burns Lake Braves this past weekend.

Goals by John Marren and Jason McEwen didn’t seem to help in a losing cause, a game in which the Luckies were sluggish, and never really a factor in.

“We just couldn’t get rolling.” Captain Alonzo Slaney said. “We couldn’t establish a forecheck, our breakout wasn’t there, and we just didn’t get the bounces.”

Houston goalie Don Kenzle faced 48 shots in the game, which also saw the Luckies get into penalty trouble with 87 minutes called between the two teams, including fighting majors and misconducts.

“We had to fight hard for the puck, we were picking up towards the end of the game.” Slaney said.

The Luckies now head to Williams Lake to face the Stampeders, and the Luckies captain is looking forward to the trip.

“We’ll be going over a lot on the long bus ride.”
