One of America’s leading anti-sexist male activists is coming to Houston.
An educator, author, and nationally acclaimed lecturer, Jackson Katz, of California, challenges the way society views gender violence.
“Violence against women is a men’s issue,” Jackson said. “They perpetrate a vast majority of instances.”
He says these issues can be prevented by focusing on men and boys. The vast majority of perpetrators are just average men.
“It would be more comforting to people if these men were monsters,” Katz said. “But we are all alike.”
Katz has been involved in related work since he was 19 years old.
“I became an activist on the issues when I learned how pervasive sexism was,” he said.
Katz will be speaking to high schools in Houston, Smithers, and Hazelton on Oct. 14. In the evening he will host an open forum at the Della Herman Theatre in Smithers at 7:00 p.m.
