Stand off from climate treaty

An open letter to the Right Honourable Stephen Harper.

Prime Minister,

In December of this year, delegations from some 192 countries will be gathering in Copenhagen, to continue work on a legally binding treaty to combat climate change.

The preliminary language of this treaty, trumping any country’s internal laws, speaks of verifiable, enforceable targets. Developed Countries, Canada included, would commit a percentage of their GDP to finance development in least developed countries (LDC).

It mentions transfer of technology, as well as capacity building in, these LDCs. The treaty would transfer manufacturing capacity and funding to LDCs, while our economy would be adversely affected by efforts to drastically reduce our carbon emissions.

Funding for LDC would be handled through a UN agency, and funds allocated on the basis of need.

“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” is the motto of those who would redistribute forcefully the wealth of the developed countries. It is a socialist agenda that has failed wherever tried.

The proposed language speaks of “emissions debt” incurred by the developed countries. There is no emissions debt. The developed countries have been using fossil fuels to grow and maintain our economies.

This generates the wealth that we share willingly with less fortunate countries.

There is a growing body of evidence pointing to a cooling rather than a warming of the planet.

Evidence shows that mankind’s impact on the climate is negligible.

The data base used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and its methodology are either faulty or fraudulent.

Given the above attack on Canada’s sovereignty and the questionable data used by the IPCC, the debate is far from closed. We therefore urge your government to stand off from this calamitous project.

Very concerned Canadians,

Gilles & Elinore Mailhiot
