EDITORIAL: Hats off to Stampede volunteers

Each and every year, the Williams Lake Stampede Association and its volunteers pull off one of best events in all of western Canada.

And this year was no exception.

The rodeo performers were top-notch, the events like the parade and barn dance were well-organized, and more than 12,000 people showed up to take part.

Even better, Stampede president Fred Thomas says quite a few of the volunteers are younger people.

There were friendly faces and smiles everywhere this weekend, from the Stampede Grounds to the parade participants, to the entertainers to the Street Party vendors and volunteers, to the cooks and other volunteers at the Stampede breakfasts and the Rotary steakouts.

Everyone should feel great about the role they played in providing an excellent weekend for residents and visitors alike.

Thank you for all of your efforts. Obviously there would be no Stampede without you.

And we want to recognize those who donated more than $7,500 for Taryn Carnes, part of a local rodeo family.

When help is needed, this community always gives.
