WALT COBB: Don’t bring problems to new home

To carry on with the annoying news items this last week or so.

The other news item that has me a little miffed is the demonstrations that are allowed to take place on our streets and in our cities protesting an assumption that we have the right to interfere in what is happening in other countries. I am talking about the election in Iran.

And the demonstrations seem to be getting bigger. Who are these people and what are they hoping to gain, other than some international media on how corrupt they think other countries and their election process are? Who made them the judge and jury? These demonstrators cannot all be Iranians.

I just have to say that if those people protesting on our streets who want us as Canadians to get involved, and make sure their country and more specifically their votes are counted, need to consider this. If you are still allowed a vote in your homeland you are not likely a Canadian citizen in the first place. For the rest of them who are not Iranians, join the forces. I also think that many of these disputes have little to do with any political ideology and more to do with religious beliefs.

Now I understand in some of these countries there are a lot of things that happen that we do not agree with, and to display any kind of opposition could mean the death sentence.

You know you are safe here in Canada and are allowed to protest in the streets, but if you really feel that strong there are probably more productive ways of accomplishing those goals. If you have family members still there, then do what you need to do to get them out but don’t bring the conflicts to our shores.

If nothing can be done from within your homeland to correct what you feel is wrong, what do you think protesting in Canada will achieve? If these leaders are that corrupt do you think they really care what a few demonstrators in some far away country are doing?

If you left your mother country because of the unrest, that was your choice and because you wanted a better life. Don’t bring those problems to your new home or ask us to solve them for you.
