EDITORIAL: Williams Lake video a great opportunity

Visitors to the Vancouver International Airport are in for a treat.
Starting fall, and for six months — including next February and March during the Olympic and Paralympic Games — travellers will be able to look up at YVR video screens and see cowboys.
They’ll see much more than that of course — they will see how special Williams Lake is in the three-minute video the City will produce to be showcased at the airport.
What an awesome opportunity to showcase Williams Lake, and invite the world to come visit and see what we have to offer.
We urge the filmmakers to be diverse, and to include our Stampede, our ranching, mining, and forest industries, our First Nations, and some of the highlights of the region: the breathtaking landscapes and recreational opportunities.
The video may serve another purpose as well. It may open our eyes to our own city and region, and remind us how special it is.
In our daily grinds, sometimes we got lost in the negative — whether it be the state of streets or what have you — but it would be refreshing to see a three-minute commercial for something we don’t need to do anything to enjoy.
We’re already here in a great city.
