The BC Nurses Union Steward group is putting on a Halloween party just for adults on Saturday, Oct. 31 to raise funds for the Central Cariboo Hospice and Palliative Care Society.

When the nurses group decided to put on the party, RN Marianne Pitt said they were looking for a charitable organization to raise funds for that has links with nursing.

She says the hospice society promptly came to mind because there is no area of nursing that doesn’t, at some point, intersect with nursing.

“It feels very good for us to provide this fund raising activity for this group of very hard working, dedicated volunteers,” Pitt says.

“As anyone who is involved with a non-profit society knows, having enough money to make ends meet is one of the agency’s biggest challenges, right next to recruiting volunteers.”

The Halloween party for adults takes place in the Gibraltar Room with dancing to the live band Fibber (www.fibbr.ca).

“Join us to kick up your feet, dress up in a funky or scary disguise, have some tasty treats and enjoy some activities that the town will be talking about for many weeks to come,” Pitt says.

“Monster’s Pizza will be feeding the frenzied freaks about midnight with piled high pizzas as well as other treats being available.”

Pitt says many generous local businesses have also donated door prizes from hardware to items for pampering yourself or your pet.

The Halloween dance is Saturday, Oct. 31 from 8:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. Nov. 1.

Tickets are $30 and include a drink and snacks.

Tickets are available at Sight and Sound or by calling Pitt at 250-392-2863.

Pitt says the BCNU stewards are a multifaceted group of nurses who work to support members under the provincial collective agreement and collaborate with local management of Interior Health to problem solve when there are concerns either for an individual or on a more global scale.

“As BCNU members, we not only provide health care for the individuals of our community we also care about issues related to social justice and health care,” Pitt says.
