Chamber of Commerce AGM Thursday

Welcome to our newest members: Home Maid by Kim, StanCom Developments Ltd., Concrete Fitness Ltd., Kariboo Video Production & News.

We have enjoyed this past month in celebration of Small Business Month and appreciation those who supported us in the events.

One of our recent events was an evening celebration of Chamber pioneers and it was rewarding to catch up with those who helped shape our community and are now enjoying retirement.

We have also hosted an informative workshop to help our members and members of the general public estimate the size and impact of their business’ carbon footprint.

Locally, the Coast Fraser Inn has decided to become a smoke-free environment following comments from their guests.

They have also earned two green keys in the Coast hotels “go green” program and are working towards the 3rd green key. Ron Ridley Rentals is getting the trucks that were out on the fires until September cleaned up and ready for the mining companies to use for their exploration and development phases this autumn.

wThe Chamber is encouraged to hear that companies are thinking ahead to the future.

Cariboo Team Realty has moved their location downtown and remodeled the old Kelly’s Barbershop location.

On the provincial level, the BC Chamber has headed up a number of important initiatives lately, with much input from our local chamber, and is pleased to announce that: the province will form a local government election task force, the BC Skills Connect Program will receive an additional $12 million from provincial and federal governments and there will be more funding for marketing wood products in China.

The Williams Lake & District Chamber of Commerce is a valued member of the BC Chamber and its input and support are appreciated. If you are interested in helping work on our policies that are put forward in February, please call our office 250-392-5025.

We invite everyone to attend our Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers Oct. 29 at 11:45 AM at Signal Point Restaurant.

Our guest speakers this month are Brian Battison, VP of Corporate Affairs at Taseko Mines.

We also have representatives from the Business Development Bank in recognition of the 2009 Business Excellence Award recipients and Penny Robart from ESP Consulting will talk about the Small Business Program.

If you are interested in serving on the board, contact our office asap.

Chamber meetings offer businesses the opportunity to meet other business owners and staff and talk about ideas and issues that you have in your workplace. Members are encouraged to enter one of our draws and your business could be profiled in the next Chamber Chatter.

We ask that you help us and the restaurant by providing your RSVP by Tuesday; call 392-5025 to reserve your seat.
