Education or a new roof?

As a first term school trustee attending a provincial conference in Vancouver last weekend about education and kids I was interested in listening to the Deputy Minister of Education, James Gorman, telling us how bleak the finances of the province are.
The Ministry removed $150,000,000 from the education budget for the Annual Facilities Grant (that’s the money required to repair and maintain buildings) throughout the province.
Then announce that full day kindergarten will be implemented in 2010 at a cost of $150,000,000 was interesting.
Of any of the 60 trustees from the school districts throughout the province that I talked to, not one of their districts had been told that their district would be implementing full day kindergarten.
Where is the planning? Where is the consultation? Where
are we going to get the required kindergarten teachers?
It seems that the Ministry is going full speed ahead without a plan! This is disturbing!
What also is disturbing is that the government just announced a $550,000,000, that’s correct, $550 million, new roof for B.C. Place Stadium.
The province has no money according to Mr. Gorman!
Where are the priorities? Kids and health care or a new roof?
Always amazed by political decisions!
