MULTI-CENTRE

Playground is a waste

Re: Is now the time for the multi-centre? The Observer, Nov. 10.

Any guarantee by government a tax is good is generally a lie. As the mills say, government should be spending on the economy now, not on luxuries.

If this little bust goes on, about one half of the businesses you now tax and expect jobs from are going to be non-existent in about five years.

Cities are starting to find they are short of money due to job losses now, so what do they do? They raise taxes on people who have homes or businesses but no money to pay taxes.

We might not have jobs in Quesnel but we will have a $30 million “playground” that won’t make a dime or a job and not another job in sight.

As far as the mills making money on the population, every business and the town owe their existence to the mills. Let’s remember that for sure.

The mills in this case do not owe any more to the people than the people owe to the mills for the jobs they create. People, if I am not wrong, were paid wages for any labour they did.

The NDP, along with a lot of socialists, are quick to forget this. Anytime the government comes to somebody’s rescue they destroy someone else.

I lived through a Depression and saw this and it was the same then.

11th hour decision hurts

Re: Is now the time for the multi-centre? The Observer, Nov. 10.

The remarks made by our first and nearly only industry in Quesnel centered around the economy and their opinion on a referendum for or against a multi-centre using our forest industry as a platform on the 11th hour is getting very close to socialism and the obvious collusion.

I am embarrassed for the major shareholders and management the community has supported in recourses, elections, and tax base to keep the economic wheel turning in our small community. Most of us all well aware the only motivation bigger business has is the bottom line, that we have supported.

This of course is in hindsight of the referendum and the election results. Congratulations to all that predicated including the voters. I have enjoyed a working career in the forest industry as has most of us directly and indirectly, it is time to support the results of this election and referendum.
