Volunteers needed
There’s a number of volunteer opportunities for Quesnel residents when the Olympic Torch Relay comes to town.
The Quesnel event is looking for people to help with everything from staging, security and show runners to media relations and hospitality.
“We are excited to share in the spirit of 2010 and welcome the Olympic Flame to our community on January 29 as it makes its way across Canada and British Columbia,” Mayor Mary Sjostrom said.
“On that date, all eyes will be on our community.
“We continue to develop ways for residents to come together, celebrate and show our Olympic and Canadian spirit and volunteering is a key part of that.”
“Probably one of the more exciting volunteer opportunities we have is for mascot performers and handlers,” event coordinator Wylie Bystedt added.
“We are looking for individuals who are excited and interested about participating in the experience of a lifetime and who are willing to help out wherever required.”
Both Qautchi and Miga will attend, so volunteers are needed to perform in costume.
The weight of the costumes varies from 10 to 15 kilograms (22 to 34 pounds) so any volunteers chosen for this need to be reasonably fit.

Quesnel will host the Olympic Torch on Jan. 29, 2010 as the relay winds its way through the community before a celebration in downtown Quesnel.
The Olympic Torch Relay is presented by Coca-Cola and RBC.
