RCMP are asking the public for help following a brazen mid-morning purse-snatching in downtown Quesnel.
Ida Larson, 87, was walking down Front Street to Quesnel Family Thrift Store at 10:30 a.m. June 28.
“I had my left hand on the door handle and my purse under my right arm,” Larson said.
“I never knew she was right behind me.”
Larson said a well-dressed woman in her mid-30s with shoulder-length blonde hair simply grabbed her purse and walked away briskly, never saying a word.
“I tried to go after her and was yelling ‘My purse! I’ve been robbed!’” Larson said.
But the woman was moving too quickly, so Larson returned to the thrift store. Owner Jane Halvorsen helped Larson and called the police. Halvorsen’s husband John ran outside to see if he could spot the thief.
Larson said police arrived in moments and patrolled the area, but without success.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Gary Clark-Marlow confirmed the investigation is still underway, although they have no suspects at this time. Anyone with info can call RCMP at 250-992-9211.
