I just got back from my grandmother’s funeral in Alberta and I have been thinking a lot about Heaven. It amazes me how people talk about Heaven. They describe it as sitting on a cloud playing a harp and wearing a Halo. That is one we hear a lot. Imagine with me a place which is so beyond description that it requires negative terminology to bring out its greatness.
The Bible says in the Book of Revelation that Heaven has no more tears, no sickness, no pain and no death. A place that is totally free of war and conflict. You don’t get tired or old there.
No one ever says good-bye and there are never any disappointments.
You never throw anything out because it doesn’t spoil and flowers never die. There are no earthquakes, hurricanes, or tidal waves. Medicine is no longer needed.
Everything is safe and you don’t need locks on doors any more. Here is the place of perfect peace and harmony and imagine—it lasts Forever!
When Jesus spoke about Heaven He talked about a real place. Not some kind of fairy tale or pie in the sky thinking.
He called it His Father’s House which had many rooms and He promised to come and get all those who believe in Him.
He said, “I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:3.
Wow, what a promise! Jesus followers, that we read about in the Bible, struggled with the very same things that we do. What brought them peace was the assurance of a future in Heaven.
John 1:12 puts it so well, “To all who received Him He gave the right to become children of God.”
As His child by my right of inheritance I get everything He offers including life in Heaven with God forever. Who would want to miss such an offer?
