Small computer tags are now part of Curves members’ workout.

Curves in Quesnel has just completed retrofitting all their machines so members can track their performance with CurvesSmart state-of-the-art technology.

After their unique body signature is entered into the computer, weight, measurements, body mass indicators and any specific health issues, their performance index value is set.

As the member goes to each exercise station they hold their tag against the Success Coach (installed on each machine) which automatically activates the system.

Instantly, the Success Coach retrieves the member’s profile from the local computer and downloads a unique set of data. Their physical effort is then compared to pre-established performance index value.

“It keeps you honest in working at the correct intensity level, tells you the number of repetitions and heart rate level,” staff member Connie McConnell said.

“If you’re under-performing the monitor shows yellow to orange and if you’re over performing the green screen flashes.

“Heart rate is measured at the stepper station and compared to the member’s heart rate zone.”

Once the workout is completed, the member sits down at the computer and sees just how

they performed in that workout as well as all

previous workouts compared to their performance index.

“I really like it,” Monique Pelletier said.

“It’s nice to track your efforts.”

Pelletier said one time she felt her workout was the worst she’d ever done but the computer said it was the best she’d ever done.

“I feel better,” she said.

“I’m already experiencing positive results.”

McConnell agreed everyone seems to love it.

“It makes everyone work harder and that seems to be what members want,” she added.

“It will be interesting to see the monthly weigh-in results and know just how much they’re benefiting from CurvesSmart.”

The program ensures members keep their exertion level at a point where they will get safe, maximum benefit based on their unique body signature.

McConnell likes the system personally and finds it allows her to see which muscle group she needs to work and how many calories she burns during each workout.

Mary Ellison is also happy with the new technology.

“It makes you work harder and that’s good,” she said.

“Its a nice measure of how much you’re benefiting.”

However, McConnell was quick to assure if a member doesn’t want to participate in CurvesSmart, the machines work just the same.

“They just don’t have the benefit of tracking their workout,” she said.

CurvesSmart also challenges the user by automatically adjusting their workout intensity, identifying areas to focus on and helping members achieve their personal fitness and weight management goals.

“The program only bumps people to a higher level if they demonstrate a higher performance,” McConnell said.

It also works the other way by reducing the level.

“This can happen if a member is on holidays or they have an injury. It can even be programmed for rehabilitation.

“CurvesSmart can be programmed regardless of a members workout level.

“This program is awesome. It’s the most advanced fitness technology in the world.”
