The 100 Mile Outriders Gymkhana Club closed its season on Sept. 27 with a day of races and presentation of awards for its saddle series of events.

The saddles were awarded as first-place prizes to aggregate winners of monthly gymkhanas that began in May. Second-place winners were awarded belt buckles.

Presented with the junior prize saddle was junior all-around winner, Raven Gentry. Kaylee Billyboy was runner-up all-around winner of the belt buckle.

In intermediate competition, it was Terris Billyboy who

took home the saddle and

Jill Sigouin was awarded

the buckle.

First-place saddle winner in the senior division was Tiffany Vaughan and Dawnna Monks received the buckle.

Jack Benny all-around saddle winner was Dennis Gunn and Sharie Mailhot won the buckle.

Winner in the lead-line division, sponsored at the last minute by Interior Gardens, was Kari-Rae Ross.

Jen Felce is the club’s gymkhana co-ordinator and she says the series couldn’t have gone off any better.

“We had more lead-line kids every time and I like that because they’re the upcoming competitors. They are what make it all worthwhile to me. I love knowing they’re having fun.”

She says adult riders seem to get a lot out of the series, too. “Speed barrels had to have a husband and wife runoff and it was so much fun to watch.”

Felce adds club members are a tight group but very welcoming to newcomers at the same time.

“Everyone knows everyone and if we don’t, we treat you like we do. We make sure to welcome everyone and treat them like they belong.”

People can mark the Monday of the May long weekend as the start of their 2010 gymkhana series, she says.
