A gymkhana held Aug. 8 at Green Lake wrapped up a two-event summer series for the hosting Watch-Green Lake Community Association.

It saw 58 riders race for ribbons and cash prizes to the cheering of spectators, out for a shot of equine entertainment.

Organizer Leslie Bunting said the stands were fairly full, with attendance appearing to be the same as July’s numbers.

Heat and dust were the theme for the races that just managed to wrap up before a violent thunder and lightning storm rolled in.

The event not only had its day winners, but series aggregate champions were also declared using combined results from the July and August gymkhanas.

Overall senior aggregate was Marisa Peter, with Mandy Pincott as the runner-up.

In the Intermediate division, it was Punky Mulvahill as winner of the over-all aggregate award and Terris Billyboy was runner-up.

Junior over-all aggregate was Kaylee Billyboy with Savannah O’Connor named runner-up and in Peewee competition, Kailey Dube was the over-all aggregate winner with Jordan Jansen as runner-up.

Kailey and Jordan originally tied for the titled but in a barrel race run-off, Kailey edged her opponent out by 20/100 of a second, despite taking a five second penalty for knocking over a barrel.

Seniors and Intermediates were awarded deluxe folding lawn chairs as prizes and Juniors and Peewees got large horse-themed blankets.
