With sketchy weather and Father’s Day both important factors in the mix last Sunday, there were enough reasons not to come out to the 100 Mile Outriders buckle and saddle series gymkhana.

Even so, 32 enthusiastic riders and their steeds came out to compete in a fun day of games on horseback.

Jen Felce, who organizes the event, said that, although skies looked daunting at times, they escaped any rain.

Participants came from as far away as Kamloops for the June 21 event.

“We had two come up here this weekend for our gymkhana. They have friends who have been coming to ours and telling them how much fun it is,” said Felce.

Felce said she was happy to see lots of new youngsters registered in the lead-line event.

“They’re our future riders,” she said.

The June gymkhana was the second in a series of four, which will see the next one take place on July 19 and the final on Aug. 16. That’s when prize saddles, belt buckles and lots of draw prizes will be awarded.
