Reconsider your HST stance

To the editor:
I just want to make a comment about the effects of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) on privately owned businesses.
I’ve run into some business owners who have said the tax will not affect their business directly, or in some cases, even benefit it.
If your business benefits by this tax through cheaper administrative costs, that’s great. I, for one, am glad to hear it, especially for small businesses.
But, I want to point out one irrefutable fact. The administrative part of your business may not be affected directly, but your bottom line will be.
Is it logical to think that if my cost of living goes up, I will have more/equal amount of money to spend in your business?
Now, I am only one person who will not have the extra money to spend in your business. How about the other hundreds and thousands of other people, not to mention the fact you will have a higher cost of living?
Whether business owners want to accept it or not, their business will be affected either directly or indirectly by the implementation of this new tax. Please reconsider your position on the HST and its long-term affect on your business.
The money you save through lower administrative costs in running your business may not “outweigh” the lower amount of business you receive as a result of the HST.
