Gambling revenue shouldn’t go to general coffers

Open letter to Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett:
I am very concerned with the current government’s use of gaming funds in British Columbia.
These funds have supported many charities and non-profit agencies for many years. However, this year the funds have dried up.
Our local 100 Mile Figure Skating Club is currently making drastic cuts to ice time and instructor-to-student ratios, due to the lack of funding received this year.
I have also heard that 100 Mile Minor Hockey and the local food bank have lost significant funding previously received annually through gaming grants.
Where are the gaming funds going?
This government, which has supported our 2010 Olympics and sports, suddenly is not supporting sports and healthy lifestyles. The B.C. Liberals are willing to cut junk food out of schools for the sake of healthy living, but then they slash B.C. school sports funding.
The B.C. Liberals should put their money where their mouth is.
People need access
to healthy food and activity.
Please restore funding to our community sporting programs, school sports and our food bank.
Gaming money shouldn’t just disappear to pay for the Olympics and other government shortfalls. It should be distributed back to the charities and non-profit organizations, where it belongs.
