West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. reported a loss of $198 million in the third-quarter of the year, bringing its loss to $321 million so far this year.
The company stated it sees some signs of improvement in the United States housing market that gives West Fraser modest optimism of a strengthening demand for building products.
However, this could be offset by increasing U.S. unemployment; additional foreclosures adding to housing inventories; an end to, or reductions in, government home-buying assistance programs; and increased interest rates.
Union

The contract for local unionized district staff expires in March 2010 and council is already preparing.
Mayor Mitch Campsall appointed Coun. Jeanne Best as council’s representative at the negotiating table.
