Vehicle crashes in the 100 Mile House traffic area claimed 51 lives since 1996. In the past three years alone, there were 70 serious injury crashes.

Eric Brewer, RCMP Inspector, Commander North District

Traffic Services, says 25 of the fatalities were because seatbelts were not worn, 19 were attributed to alcohol, and 18 involved excessive speed.

Intersection crashes claimed nine lives and drugs were the cause of four deaths in vehicle crashes, according to Brewer.

In the past three years, there were 438 injuries attributed to speed; 275 to intersection crashes; 177 were due to alcohol; and 146 injuries were the result of not wearing seatbelts. Brewer notes males and females are involved in crashes almost equally.
