Residents in 100 Mile House might have noticed black smoke coming from the Ainsworth OSB plant Oct. 15 and one Ainsworth employee has an explanation.

The employee claims plastic containers with small amounts of paint and other chemicals were put in the burner

The Ministry of Environment was called and a conservation officer went to the plant to investigate.

Ministry spokesperson Liseanne Bowness confirmed conservation services attended at the OSB plant on Oct. 15 to look into an allegation.

She says the officers are following up on those allegations and it was too early to make assumptions.

Bruce Gibson, Ainsworth investor relations, says the company is undertaking an internal review of the matter. That review isn’t completed, Gibson adds, so he is unable to respond to the allegations.
