Dr. Digby Horne, Interior Health medical health officer for Thompson, Car-iboo, Shuswap, says 15 patients have been admitted to Interior Health hospitals with confirmed H1N1 since Aug. 30.

Six of those patients were admitted to intensive care and three were ventilated.

Deborah Smith, 100 Mile District General Hospital site manager, says it’s important people know the local hospital is part of a network of hospitals.

As patients show up in the emergency room, they’re assessed and treated according to their needs, she says.

She adds if patients need more specialized treatment than the local hospital can provide, whether it’s due to a trauma or illness such as H1N1, they would be transferred to a higher-level care facility in the Interior Health Region.
