It’s coming — the Olympic Torch Relay will be in the South Cariboo Jan. 28.

The torch will be carried through Lone Butte, 100 Mile House, 108 Mile Ranch and Lac la Hache on its way to Williams Lake to end the day.

The Cariboo Regional District and the District of 100 Mile House are applying for funds to help communities organize their portion of the relay.

The CRD is setting up a series of meetings for the three rural communities to start arranging their portion of the relay.

The first meeting will be at the 108 Mile Ranch community hall Wednesday, July 29; the next evening, July 30, it’s at the Lac la Hache community hall; and, on Thursday, Aug. 6 a meeting will be held at the Lone Butte Community Hall.

All meetings run from 7-9 p.m.

Bev Kendy and Heidi Reid are heading up the organizing committee in 100 Mile House.

The Olympic torch relay starts on Oct. 30 and will travel to over 1,000 communities in every province and territory, over 45,000 kilometres.

12,000 torchbearers will carry the torch that will end up at the Olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver Feb. 12, 2010.
