Goheens new owners of Sheridan Lake complex
Bob and Anneli Goheen of Interlakes Market are congratulated on now also being the owners of the Sheridan Lake Complex.
Bob advises fishing gear and produce will be housed only at Sheridan Lake. The bakery is also moving to that store, as it has a better kitchen, and Sheridan’s liquor section will be expanding.
No longer of adequate standards, Sheridan’s gas pumps are now closed.
Sheridan’s videos have gone, but Bob advises they were consigned to Wayne Salter, and Bob may well bring them back for the established clientele.
For their part, Sheridan vendors, Wayne and Teri Salter, have a place on Vancouver Island and will be dividing their time between here and there. That’s good because if they moved away completely, they would be much missed by many friends.
PAC dinner
The 20th annual Bridge Lake Elementary School (BLES) Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) dinner auction will be held Nov. 20.
This year’s theme is Black and White (which doesn’t mean tux) and the menu comprises honey Cajun barbecue glazed baby back ribs, tossed salad, rice pilaf and buns.
Doors open for viewing at 5 p.m., dinner is at 5:30 and the auction commences at 6:30.
Dinner tickets cost $10 each (no minors) and are available from 9 a.m. to noon at the school; at Bridge Lake Store; or by calling PAC president Lydia deGroot at 250-593-0364. Seating is limited; get your tickets early.
Admission to the auction alone is $1.
Donations to the auction are being gratefully received. Items can be left at the school or call deGroot to have them collected.
BLES news
When I welcomed new BLES students, I inadvertently omitted the kindergartners.
They comprise Amber Conway, Alexander Kuyek, Alice Lanzoni, Emma Law and Ryan Vincenz, and they are especially welcome.
Oct. 9 saw some 20 Grade 3-7 BLES students compete in the South End Schools Cross-Country Run at 99 Mile. Congratulations are in order; they won the Small Schools division, and brought home the coveted Golden Running Shoe.
Special mention goes to Ramona Bauer who came third overall for Grade 7 girls.
Mitten tree
Interlakes Volun-
teer Fire Depart-
ment’s mitten tree is back at BLES.
Every winter, students who have no mittens, for whatever reason, may go
and pick a pair off
the tree, which for security reasons, is kept in the principal’s office.
Mittens come in a myriad of wonderful colours, and sizes to fit any child.
The tree is managed by Celine Desaulniers and, as of now, is plentifully supplied by generous community members who provided wool and labour to produce the leafy stock.
Adult sports
Adult (ages 16 and up) Volleyball recommences tomorrow (Nov. 5) and runs at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at Bridge Lake School.
Adult badminton recommenced Oct. 20 and runs at 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
Please return saw
In May, Flon Kirk left an ancient saw at the Horse Lake Road dump.
At first she shrugged it off, but later, wished she’d gone back because it was her father’s, and “must be 50 years old.” What are the chances that someone could return it to her?
