What could be nicer than a Sunday walk in the park with your faithful dog?

How about raising funds for the SPCA while you’re enjoying it?

The SPCA is holding it’s annual Paws for a Cause fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 13 in Centennial Park — and the fun doesn’t stop at the walk.

A barbecue, games, doggy races and bobbing for wieners, demonstrations and prizes will be included for still more enjoyment to be had at the event.

Winning volunteers will walk off with prizes for the individual or group raising the most funds for the walk and even some canines will be awarded for being the smallest dog, largest dog, youngest, oldest or by having the waggiest tail.

Here’s your chance to walk for the animals and join the largest campaign in support of animals in BC.

This is one of our major fundraisers and any support is well appreciated, says Cat Barnicoat, Paws for a Cause coordinator.

“There are many animals in need and we would love to see lots of participants this year. Come and join us for fun in the sun!”

Pledge forms can be picked up at Western Financial Group on Birch Avenue; at Total Pet or the 100 Mile Free Press in the Pinkney Complex on Horse Lake Road; from SPCA members; or online at www.spca.bc.ca.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m. this year with the walk commencing at 12 p.m.

Our local SPCA does not have an actual building and is manned only by community volunteers.

They currently have a need for phone volunteers and quality foster

homes; anyone considering giving a temporary home to a foster pet until it is adopted should know that the SPCA always endeavours to reimburse the cost of food and veterinary bills.

Anyone interested in donating or volunteering for our local SPCA should call them at 250-395-5303.
