Hall’s anniversary displays best of Butte

email: ahnelson@telus.net

The associations that set up displays for the Community Hall’s 33rd anniversary deserve a huge thank you.

All of the displays were excellent and full of interesting information. I’m disappointed to report that it wasn’t very well attended.

I found it very convenient as well as informative to have all the groups at one place to discuss their various associations, and what was involved in becoming a member.

A round of applause goes to all the organizations involved for their spectacular displays.

Thanks also go to Evelyn Nelson for looking after the pull tabs that the historical association uses to raise funds.

Thanks also go to Mary Carter and her band of volunteers for putting this on. The community donated wonderful baked goodies, and a huge anniversary cake was enjoyed by all who attended.

OUT for the summer

OUT group celebrated the last meeting until September with a potluck lunch held at Kathy Mouat’s beautiful home. Kathy, of the Wool and Wheel Studio, showed us her very neat and organized studio. She has handspun wool, felting supplies and gorgeous knitted goods.

About 12 of us ladies enjoyed the awesome potluck goodies, and Dona Andrews brought a delicious cake to celebrate her birthday. It was nice to see Audrey Burnell-Higgs up and around again, after her operation; we’ve missed her.

You’re invited

The Lone Butte Cemetery now has a beautiful cairn, thanks to Laszlo Reti of Paragon Granite. The granite monument stands about five-feet tall, and has all the names of the pioneers engraved on it. Reti says he was quite honoured to be able to contribute to the history of the Lone Butte cemetery and to pay respect to the pioneers of this area. The cairn was very heavy and had to be placed just right on the base, but, with the sure-handed manoeuvring of Greg Flannery and his machine, it was safely set down. Things go smoothly when you have an expert helping you; the Historical Association thanks Greg for his assistance.

On June 29 at 1 p.m. there will be an official unveiling of the cairn. Everyone is welcome. It would be especially nice if those relatives of the cemetery “residents” would come too. For more information call Al Jones at 395-5193.

Community hall

The floors of the community hall are finally getting refinished; they desperately need the work. The hall will be closed from June 24 until June 29 to make sure the floors are finished and sealed properly.

Celebrations

Congratulations go to Al and Gayle Jones who are celebrating their 25th anniversary on June 24, which just happens to be Al’s birthday, too.

Community calendar

Ladies drop in volley ball is every Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the community hall. The last game for the season will be on June 30.

Lone Butte Volunteer Fire Department meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed. For more information call Mike Collinge at 395-6665 or 395-4870.
